"It's Funny"

I had seventeen years to figure out something
The first time I tried to open my knife
I cut myself
It’s funny now

A kid can be like a falling tree
A kid can be like a falling leaf
A kid can be like a bouncing ball

A kid break like a paper bag
A kid can break like a glass of wine
A kid can break and still seem fine

I had seventeen years to figure out something
The first time I heard you thought I’d changed
I laughed out loud
I didn’t want to watch you fall
I didn’t want to see you crack
I guess instead of holding on
Instead of holding on I turned my back

But a kid can grow like a broken bone
A kid can grow like a crack in a wall
A kid can grow and still be small
It’s funny

I wasn’t trying to hate myself
I was just trying to figure things out
I just wanted be like the people
Who were being like the people
Who were something special
But I didn't want to be a punk
I didn't want to take your stuff
I didn't want to be a drunk
I just wanted to get messed up

But a kid can move like an avalanche
A kid can move like a mobile home
A kid can move just gimme a chance
Just gimme a chance
Just gimme a chance

<break>

I've been living in my head trying to figure out something
There was something you said that made me think about time
There was something you said that made me stop on a dime
I loved you then
The time we spent
Together
Will never
Not have
Existed
And this is
What I've missed
What I've missed
What I've missed

A friend can fade like a dying star
A friend can fade like a movie scene
A friend can fade like a speeding car
A friend can fade like your breath in the air
A friend can fade like a tree in the night
As the fog gets heavy and my chest gets tight
Fading like the echo in the woods
Who did this?
My fist is in the dirt at the edge of the forest
Who started this?
Who’s laughing at me?
Your voice ringing in the darkness
But it was all a part of this.
